Why an extension shows as inactive

Overview

An extension can show as inactive on the dashboard even though the app itself is installed and configured correctly.

In most cases, this is caused by theme-related changes.

Most common reasons

1. The extension is not added to the active theme

Extensions are theme-specific.

If the extension is added to a theme that is not active, the dashboard will show it as inactive.

What to check

  • Which theme is currently active

  • Whether the extension is added to that theme

2. The theme was changed

When you switch themes:

  • Extensions do not carry over

  • Each theme must be configured separately

What to do

  • Open the theme editor for the new theme

  • Add the extension again

3. The extension is added to the wrong page type

An extension must be added to the correct page type:

  • Product Page extension โ†’ product page template

  • Bulk Order Page extension โ†’ page template

If itโ€™s added elsewhere, it will show as inactive.

4. Changes were not saved

If the theme editor changes are not saved:

  • The extension will not be active

  • The dashboard will not update

Always save after adding the extension.

5. The page or template was removed

If the page or page template that contains the extension is deleted:

  • The extension becomes inactive

  • The dashboard reflects this immediately

What inactive does not mean

An inactive extension does not mean:

  • The app is broken

  • Your bulk order forms are deleted

  • Pricing or visibility settings are lost

All configuration inside the app remains intact.

How to fix an inactive extension (quick steps)

  1. Go to Online Store โ†’ Themes โ†’ Edit theme

  2. Make sure the correct theme is active

  3. Add the extension to the correct page

  4. Save changes

  5. Refresh the dashboard

Common confusion

โ€œThe extension was active beforeโ€

This usually means:

  • The theme was changed

  • The extension was removed during theme edits

Best practices

  • Check extension status after theme updates

  • Configure extensions immediately after switching themes

  • Use dashboard indicators as a setup check, not a visibility check
