The Text Settings page allows you to customize all customer-facing text shown in the VAT validation form.
In most cases, you can safely leave these settings unchanged.
The default texts are designed to work well for the majority of stores and customers.
Use these settings only if:
You want to change the wording or tone of the messages
You need custom phrasing for your brand
You want to adjust terminology for your market (e.g. VAT vs tax)
Language behavior
By default:
These texts apply to all countries
The same texts are shown regardless of customer location
If you want to use different languages per country, use Shopifyโs Translations feature instead.
Title
The main heading displayed above the VAT validation form.
Example:

Short explanation shown below the title.
Example:
Fill in your VAT number for tax exemption.
Email placeholder
Placeholder text shown inside the email input field.
Example:

Text shown on the VAT validation button.

Success text
Message shown after successful VAT validation.
Example:
Your VAT number is successfully verified. Please use the same email in the checkout.
Invalid VAT error text
Message shown when the VAT number is invalid.
Example:
Invalid VAT number
Same-country warning text
Message shown when a VAT number is valid but not exempt because it belongs to the same country as the store.
Example:
Your VAT number has been validated, but no tax exemption applies because it is the same country.
Empty fields error text
Message shown when required fields are empty.
Example:
Please fill in both fields.
Invalid email error text
Message shown when the email address format is invalid.
Example:
Invalid email address
VAT check overload error text
Message shown when the VIES API is temporarily unavailable.
Example:
Please try again. The EU API might be overloaded.
VAT ID label (for order notes)
Label used when saving the VAT number in order notes.
