What this does

The AI calculator assistant turns a short product description into a draft calculator: fields, formulas, and (when your plan allows) advanced options. You review everything before you save.

It is the fastest way to go from “I sell custom-sized panels” to a working form on your product page.

Who can use it

PlanAI calculator access
Free1 free generation (shared with the AI formula assistant). After that, upgrade to keep using AI.
StarterUnlimited AI generations
PremiumUnlimited AI generations, including Premium-only field types when relevant

If the assistant suggests Premium-only features (for example conditional pricing, font picker, or calculation display) while you are on Free or Starter, you will see a clear notice and can upgrade or simplify the draft.

How to generate a calculator

  1. Open Options Price Calculator in your Shopify admin.

  2. Go to Calculators (or Create calculator).

  3. Choose the AI / create-with-AI option when it is offered.

  4. Describe the product in plain language. Include:

    • What the customer must enter (width, height, material, options…)

    • How the price should work (per m², base + surcharge, option add-ons…)

    • Any rules (“if over 2m, add a fee”)

  5. Submit and wait for the draft.

  6. Review fields, keys, and the formula carefully.

  7. Adjust labels, options, and pricing, then save.

  8. Link the calculator to the right product variants, and confirm the theme extension is on your product template.

Tips for better results

  • Be specific about units (mm vs cm vs m).

  • Mention the Shopify product price if it should be part of the formula (product_price).

  • List option choices and their price impact.

  • Prefer one clear pricing story per calculator; split complex product lines into separate calculators if needed.

After AI generates the draft

AI is a starting point, not a publish-and-forget step:

  • Check every field key used in the formula.

  • Test on a product page with realistic inputs.

  • Translate labels if you sell in multiple languages.

  • Turn on server-side price validation in App settings if you want cart/checkout prices verified by the app.
